"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art. It has no survival value;
rather it is one of those things that give value to survival."
- C. S. Lewis

What is a Bloc?

Bloc (def.): a combination of persons, groups, or nations forming a unit
with a common interest or purpose (Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary).

Blocs at Watershed are groups of people centered on a common objective, interest, or goal. No two blocs are the same in nature or structure. Each one is unique in its design and leadership, however, every bloc embraces the following three values.

Connecting - relationally

Growing - personally and relationally with God and others.

Serving - as an outward expression of good news for our community and world.

While all blocs embody these characteristics, some blocs will lean more aggressively towards one of the three.

Blocs happen at a variety of times, durations, and places throughout the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. Our intention is that through blocs people will form deep and lasting relationships, grow holistically in line with God, and become transforming to people locally and abroad through serving others in need.

Why get involved in a Bloc?

Other than the fact that it's fun to hang out with people (and that our gatherings have cool names), we believe that life lived alone is not life. Instead it’s more like exile, desperate and devoid of meaning. As human beings, we were never designed to live in isolation emotionally, spiritually, or physically. When experienced alone, pain, struggle, and victory can be empty and debilitating. With a supportive circle of friends who care and in a context of togetherness, a person can overcome almost anything. This is the way we want to live.
