THE CATAPULT PROJECT
The Catapult Project is a collaborative effort between Watershed's community and non-profits that are working with Walter G. Byers school, a CMS school located in the direct area of influence of our Sunday morning venue. We believe that education is one of the keys to breaking cycles of poverty, so we seek to support the students, staff, and parents of the school through a wide variety of initiatives. LOVE TO READ WEEK
Watershed is partnering with several other churches in the Queen City to read to the students of Walter G. Byers from February 13th-17th. Click here for more information and to find out how you can help.
CHARLOTTE FAMILY HOUSING
Watershed partners with Charlotte Family Housing to help support Hawthorne Place, a permanent shelter where up to 6 families reside on a temporary basis as they work to transition out of homelessness. These families are on a quest to find employment, housing for their families, and a more self-sustaining life. Charlotte Family Housing relies on communities and congregations in Charlotte to help with various needs at the Hawthorne Place, and one way we to do this is providing dinners for six families on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Another aspect of our partnership with CFH is our involvement with "Hope Teams", groups that provide encouragement and support to families moving from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The teams are comprised of four to six persons per team and work along with the family’s Social Workers to provide friendly support and encouragement to the families. For more information on helping with our monthly meals or on Hope Teams, email Jamie McCollum.
STREET SOCCER
Street Soccer 945 is the first year-round soccer program for the homeless and impoverished in the United States. Street Soccer 945 recognizes healthy living, a constructive use of leisure time, a community of teammates that supports you, a personal relationship with people who can help you achieve your goals— these ingredients are the keys to anyone’s well being. CHRISTMAS VILLAGE TOY STORE
The Christmas Village Toy Store is a partnership with local church communities through which we provide parents with limited resources an opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their kids at a reduced cost. Watershed helps to contribute to the store inventory by purchasing gifts which are then donated to the store, and by providing volunteers to help staff the store during the holiday season. Proceeds generated from the sales are funneled back into the community to provide scholarships for students in the surrounding community who may not otherwise be able to afford college. In 2011, The Christmas VIllage Toy Store brought in over $30,000 for local scholarships for at-risk students.
